Atmospheric CO₂

Rapidly rising atmospheric CO₂ concentration and its potential impact on future climates is an issue of global, economic and political importance. Since the industrial revolution, the atmospheric CO₂ concentration has risen from 280ppm to around 380ppm. When investigating the reasons behind this increase, much emphasis is being placed on the long term monitoring of CO₂ exchanges between terrestrial ecosystems and the atmosphere. The measurement of these exchanges requires high performance instrumentation that provide both an ultra fast response time (20Hz) and a high level of resolution (0.02ppm). To calculate the total carbon storage of a canopy, researchers often require to know the CO₂ concentration over a vertical profile within the canopy. The CPS12 system enables the continuous monitoring of CO₂ at up to 24 points. This complete stand-alone system includes data logging, flow control, filtration and analogue inputs for other environmental sensors.
